After four months living in Sochi, I wasn’t ready to quit cold turkey on the Olympic Movement. I made my way to Moscow then Berlin to look at the historical old Olympic sites. Without planning the next two months, I made my way through Europe on a spontaneous tour of historical Olympic venues where I ended up visiting 14 old Olympic cities. This could not have been done without the help of many Europeans offering me historical information, a spare bed, or rides from the side of the road.
I have always been fascinated with sport venue architecture and the feeling of entering a stadium bowl for the first time and seeing the seats surround you. But the biggest surprise was the incredible history of the Olympic Games and the legacies (or lack thereof) of the Olympic Movement. This trip marks a half way point on my world wide quest to see every Olympic city.(For interesting factoids on this journey, I documented it on my instagram page).
